After the very first pocket tv, the Sinclair MTV1A made in 1977, Sony contemplated the problem of pocket tv design, realising the Cathode Ray Tube was a problem, Sony set about redesigning it. A revolutionary new CRT with a screen at 90 degrees to the electron firing gun was the answer. Way was found to bend the electron beam at right angles in order to produce a picture. But the ultimate breakthrough LCD screen was only months away at Casio research. as was the Colour LCD screen at Seiko's Epson research. But the Sony FD-210 is a legend because it was the first mass selling pocket tv ever.
